Tuesday Tragedy

The lesson of today : Don't leave your kids in a car UNATTENDED. Why?

Today, aunty evi did not go to the office and decided to stay at home. Pak Ajat, the driver, had finished washing the car and was writing something. Mbak Nur was preparing Alexa's clothes and Mbak Anis was preparing Wisnu's clothes for they were about to go to the supermarket with Aunty Evi. Ibu was writing on the computer and Aunty Evi was inside--thinking that Wisnu and Alexa were in the good hands of Mbak Nur or Mbak Anis.

Alexa and Wisnu loved to play inside the car and usually pak Ajat unlock the doors and leave the windows open. But as the French say : People make the faux pas-- Sometimes things could go so very wrong.

Suddenly, we heard the music from the tape in the car became very loud and we said to the kids to turn the volume down. When Mbak Nur approached the car, she found out that the kids were jumping up and down happily in the car but all the doors and windows WERE LOCKED !!! It was 1 o'clock and the sun was really unfriendly--the machine was off and the worse thing was the KEY was inside the car. Mbak Nur tried to open the door but it was locked off.

She asked pak Ajat : " pak, where is the key?"
Pak Ajat calmedly said " it was inside".

Oh-oh.
Then we found out that there was no spare key as Aunty Evi left it at her office. Everybody went panicked. OF COURSE !!! TWO KIDS WERE LOCKED INSIDE THE CAR!!!
We tried to tell the kids to unlock the keys, but maybe because we told it frantically, they started to catch the alarming situation. They started to be sweating and crying. We became more panicked.

Ibu told pak Ajat to find the mechanic to open the door while we were trying to calm the kids down. Aunty Evi desperately was about to break the window with an umbrella as she was afraid that the kids would be out of breath or get dehydrated. Ibu began to put the rubber rim of the front window off meanwhile Pak Ajat hit the road with his scooter in his attempt to find someone who can help. It took us about 5 minute shouting to the kids to make them move the lock but at no avail. Finally the mechanic came and he managed to open the rubber band at the front window and with a thin ruler open the lock. What a relief.

The kids were trembling and crying as the doors were open. Phew!!! We were grateful that the mechanic was very skillful and manage to help us. Otherwise, we don't know what's going to happen.....
