Wishes do come true

For Yokohama residents, snow does not represent winter. Why? Yokohama's climate is always mild compared to other parts of Japan. In the winter, the temperature only ranges between 10-15 degrees Celsius with occasional snowfall. Last year there was only a little snow for one day in December. Eventhough the winter this year has been colder and windier, there was no clear sign that there would be any snow falling.

But, to everybody's surprise...this is what we saw for at least two consecutive days on January 21 and 22.

Since we got back from our Urasa, Wisnu has been looking forward to playing with the snow. He said many times, " Ibu, Wisnu (mau) main salju --(Ibu, I want to play with the snow)". And Ibu would ask , " Where?" , and Wisnu confidently would say " Yokohama", eventhough Ibu would reply ,"There is no snow in Yokohama, dear". To his disappointment, he could only watch the snow from TV.

Until this Saturday, when Ibu was about to go back to sleep at 6.00 a.m after some typing work in the computer, Ibu saw the roof of the neighboring houses turn white. Ibu thought there was something in her eyes, so she approached the window and found out that the snow was really falling!!!

Ibu rushed to the bedroom and woke aji up so that he could take some pictures of this rare phenomenon. Aji thought that Wisnu would be happy to see this eventhough he would still be too sleepy to rejoice. So then aji whispered to wisnu "Nu, the snow is falling!". Wisnu opened his eyes and Aji took him out of the bedroom to see through the kitchen's window that the snow was really falling. We even opened the window and smell the snowfall...

We were all too excited to enjoy this view ourselves that we c-mailed some friends and their reactions were: "OK, thank you" , ":)", "It's my first snow!!!", "Wow". It's 6 o'clock in the morning and the snow is really falling.

Wisnu just could not wait to go out to play with the snow. Then Aji decided to take Wisnu along for shopping so that Wisnu could go out and touch the snow he has been dreaming of. Ibu hardly asked Wisnu to finish his breakfast as he kept saying to aji," Aji, yok (let's go)" and ran around the house chasing after Aji and rushed Aji to go out.

Well, Wisnu had several minutes to play with the snow before the bus going to the Wadamachi market came. He seemed so delighted.

Perhaps Wisnu would say, " Who says that there is no snow in Yokohama?". Indeed.
